USCIS has extended the designation of El Salvador for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, beginning September 10, 2013 and ending March 9, 2015. Current Salvadoran beneficiaries seeking to extend their TPS status must re-register during the 60-day re-registration period that runs from May 30, 2013 through July 29, 2013. Saturday, May 25th, 2013Law enforcement agencies around the Southland are setting up surprise checkpoints for the holiday weekend checking for drunk drivers but they also pick up those driving without a license.
Protesters spread out across East Los Angeles on Friday night, to speak out against a series of DUI checkpoints set up in the area for the Memorial Day weekend. Protestors accused the officers of trying to make things more difficult for undocumented immigrants, not drunk drivers. “We feel that the police target immigrant, Latino, Mexican communities unfairly,” protester Carlos Montes told KTLA5. “These police checkpoints catch mostly people who do not have driver’s licenses and they impound their cars,” Montes added.
In an effort to protest the police activity, a small group set up their own check point at the corner of Corner of Whittier and Atlantic Boulevards, warning drivers of what was ahead.

One Step Closer to Immigration Reform
Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013On May 21, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. The vote on the bill was 13 to 5.
The next stop on the road to reform will be sending the bill to be debated, amended, and voted on by the entire Senate. We will continue to provide updates on the progress of the bill as we learn more!

Los líderes evangélicos lanzan a nivel nacional campaña #Pray4Reform
Thursday, May 9th, 2013Hoy en día, el Comité Judicial del Senado comenzará a revisar las modificaciones que la Banda de Ocho para reforma migratoria hizo.
Mientras los senadores discuten seguridad en la frontera, es nuestra responsabilidad para recordarles que nuestras fronteras sean más seguras que nunca. El camino hacia la ciudadanía para los 11 millones de dólares no debe ser retrasada por factores desencadenantes y los obstáculos innecesarios!
La Mesa de Inmigración Evangélica ha anunciado el lanzamiento de “Orad por la Reforma: 92 Días de Oración y Acción para aprobar una reforma migratoria.” Este país de base y campañas digitales participarán las comunidades evangélicas en los 50 estados y apoyar a los líderes del Congreso a medida que avanzan hacia la aprobación amplia , la reforma de inmigración común.
El esfuerzo se corresponde con la unidad de la Iglesia Evangélica de la Mesa de Inmigración para el paso de dos partidos de un proyecto de ley dentro de 92 días, que corresponden al número de veces que la palabra hebrea para el inmigrante aparece en el Antiguo Testamento. Es sólo el último impulso de los líderes evangélicos de una reforma migratoria de largo alcance.
Sólo este año, decenas de miles de personas han participado en la mesa de “I Was A Stranger” desafío oración, la mesa lanzó campañas publicitarias de radio en cinco estados clave, y más de 300 líderes evangélicos se reunieron en Washington con motivo del Día Nacional de la Oración y Acción, que incluye más de 90 reuniones con líderes del Congreso.

Evangelical Leaders Launch Nationwide #Pray4Reform Campaign
Thursday, May 9th, 2013Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin reviewing amendments on the Gang of Eight’s immigration reform bill.
While the Senators discuss border security, it’s our responsibility to remind them that our borders are more secure than ever. The path to citizenship for 11 million must not be delayed by unnecessary triggers and obstacles!
The Evangelical Immigration Table have announced the launch of “Pray for Reform: 92 Days of Prayer and Action to Pass Immigration Reform.” This nationwide grassroots and digital campaign will engage evangelical communities in all 50 states and support congressional leaders as they move toward passing broad, commonsense immigration reform.
The effort corresponds with the Evangelical Immigration Table’s drive for bipartisan passage of a bill within 92 days, corresponding to the number of times the Hebrew word for immigrant appears in the Old Testament. It is only the latest push by evangelical leaders for far-reaching immigration reform.
This year alone, tens of thousands of people have participated in the table’s “I Was A Stranger” prayer challenge, the table launched radio ad campaigns in five key states, and more than 300 evangelical leaders gathered in Washington for the National Day of Prayer and Action, which included more than 90 meetings with congressional leaders.

“We are now at the point of markup, and what we have worked [on] and dreamed about and talked about for many years is now on the eve of reality. If you can, we ask that you join us. We will be leaving our office at Wilshire and Western, at 11am on May 1, and take the Metro to Perishing Square where we will walk 4 blocks to Broadway and Olympic, the meeting point. The March will conclude at La Placita Olvera (East Cesar E Chavez Ave. and N Main St., Los Angeles, CA, 90012). From there, at Union Station Metro Station, we will return to Wilshire and Western.
